For obvious reasons, I can’t tell you much more about the story but it is present and doesn’t take up too much space around the gameplay.It's hard to overlook the diversity of the robot army when discussing the Vek alien army.
Interestingly you are able to jump back in time where you can try again if you fail. You are tasked with fending them off and stop them from taking over. You are a time traveler sent to help destroy the Vek, massive insect creatures, who are looking for a fight.
Each of these tiles and their effects are lovingly crafted for the player to enjoy and it always looks outstanding. There are so many effects and things to consider when battling the enemies, like damaged Ice tiles will turn into water and sand tiles turn into smoke. That’s a level of engagement that is nearly impossible to reach.Īll of the Veks, Mechs and characters are fantastically rendered in this unique art style. The User Interface is super easy to understand, the settings are fantastic and each screen feels like it was hand crafted just for you. A charming art style that brings back memories of games long past but it doesn’t have any of the gameplay limitations that they did. There is something truly special about this title, which is to be expected as it is from the same team that brought us FTL. This is closer to a new form of chess with excellent visuals than a standard turn-based battle game. I found the combat to be incredibly engaging and tremendously rewarding. With some interesting mechanics like area of effect attacks and even a destructible environment. This is easily one of the most interesting games around, especially in the turn-based genre. Its you and your mechs vs the Vek, an alien race attempting to destroy us. So, as you would expect from a turn-based strategy game, like Gears Tactics or Frozen Synapse 2, you have to defeat your enemy by taking turns to strike each other. Unlike what you’d expect, this is not a game where you must brute-force destroy everything in your path, but a careful tactical game that requires you to take on the enemy with thoughtful precision. You must take control of legions of mechs and use them to defeat our extra-terrestrial enemies.
